The internet is a marketers dream. Here you have an audience that runs into the hundreds or even thousands of millions. All you need to do is get your slice of the action. I’ll discuss that in another article.

To get your slice of the internet cake, how can you set up a site to take payments? How can you do so on a tight budget?

It’s fairly simple really, and very affordable. The first time you do it you may sweat a little as everything you do for the first time is not easy, but you will soon learn. It is also most affordable for most people. So what do you need to do?

So how do you go about it?

A first thing you need is a web host. It will be unwise to choose a free host, as they will also advertise on your site. I’m sure that you would prefer your customers to focus on your products rather than your hosting provider’s products. You will also find it difficult to do all you need to do with such a limited host

You will also need a payment processor, one that doesn’t cost the earth. Free preferably

You will also need the software to make your pages.

Choosing the right web host is not an easy task. You need to assess the quality of the hosting account as well as the value provided. Some of the things you need to look for are:

Can you run a number of domains on the one account? The more the better. How many subdomains can you have? Over time you will want to promote more products. Each of these products would need a new domain or subdomain.

Does the hosting account let you run CGI scripts? How many databases are you permitted to run? How much disk space are you allotted? These are just a few of the questions you will need to ask in choosing a host.

Next your payment processors. There are very affordable ways to set up a payment processor. I’m just going to mention three.

PayPal is the first of these. You can join PayPal for free and begin receiving payments. Their income comes from the small percentage they take when the sale is made. Their payment system uses email to pay to. It is wise to set up an email account just for payments. Your hosting account should allow you a number of email addresses.

2checkout.com is another secure payment processor you could use. Many internet marketers use this payment processor. Most will use all three. This one has a setup fee of $50.00 and then charges a small fee for each sale you make.

The last one we’ll look at is ClickBank. They sell many products for internet marketers and businesses. They organize and pay affiliates. It is free to join ClickBank as an affiliate. To become a seller you need to set up a separate account with a one off fee of $50 to set up the account and then a percentage of each sale.

Both PayPal and 2Checkout.com generate code for you to place in your site. You will need to place this code onto the body of your page where you want the button to appear. ClickBank generates a URL which you can link to a sales button.

You see that setting up your site to take payments is both easy and very inexpensive.

To sell on the world wide web you must have a reliable web hosting provider. Some web hosting providers also provide at no extra cost value added tools such as an autoresponder as it is hopeless to market on the world wide web without one.
